For a city that is known for its industrial and functional nature, Hamburg is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to vintage shopping. For those of us who digging through the second-hand shops when they travel, this Hanseatic city may be understated, but it has a myriad of bargains just waiting to be discovered.

While the main shopping district around Jungfernstieg is a big draw for shoppers after the latest fashions and designer items. It’s the smaller neighbourhoods, second-hand shops and markets you really want to check out for those vintage must-have items and unique styles. Fancy something one-of-a-kind? You’ll find it hidden amongst the racks in the quirkier areas of town.

One of the most diverse and multicultural areas of the city, Sternschanze’s fashion represents the people through the colourful and unique styles found on its streets. Serving the people and providing them with the materials to create these exciting looks, are the vintage store owners who stock a range of styles from all eras. From 80’s sports apparel, to suits and shoes dating back to the 60’s, to vintage leathers and furs, there is something for everyone.

The Vintage Gallery

The Vintage Gallery stocks only originals from the 1920’s to the 1990’s, with a real focus on sportswear including vintage Nike and Adidas trainers and apparel. They also stock leather jackets, bags and accessories and more. Find the store at Marktstraße 27, open Monday to Saturday, 12pm to 7pm.

BSB Hamburg

BSB Hamburg stocks a real selection for men and women, with a lot of 70’s items and some fabulous costume pieces. They specialise in custom suits and shirts – many made by the owner himself – from fabrics in all colours, patterns and materials. Find the store at Marktstraße 28.

PickNWeight

PickNWeight offers a varied range of one-off items and accessories who sell their vintage finds by the kilo. Committed to sustainability, the company has shops across Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne and Munich, and promises you a unique range of vintage finds you won’t find anywhere else. Find the store at Beim Grünen Jäger 16, open Monday to Saturday, 11am to 8pm.

Plus, don’t forget to check out the likes of Vintage & Rags, Hip Cats Vintage Fashion, Humana Secondhand and Vintage, Hot Dogs and the range of charity shops in every neighbourhood. In Altona, there is second-hand shop Mano A Mano, with a range of clothing and accessories.

Check out Recession by Marla for urban fashion in 1920’s style, or Lord of Eden for suits, ties and hats for both men and women. You can also head to Schanzenflohmarkt, which is held all year round at the old Cattle Slaughter Hall. Bargain-hunters can look through everything from vintage clothing and leathers, to furniture, records and bicycles.
