The Open Air Stage is a spacious open air concert venue located in Hamburg’s luscious Stadtpark. The theater is easily accessible from Borweg (U3), Alte Wöhr (S1), or Saarlandstraße (U3) and a short walk. Concerts happen here in the summer and every ticket includes public transport to and from the location. One of Hamburg`s most beautiful Open Air Stages, established 1975.
The open air stage is separated into two rings. You enter the outer ring after your ticket is checked, and there are various vendors selling drinks and delectables. After stocking up on refreshments, you walk through one of four arches in the hedge into the main section, where you can find a place to view the stage. Be aware that there’s only standing room, so get there early if you’re amped about the band. The music drifts through the whole Stadtpark, but the real magic happens inside.
On July 15th Element of Crime played in the open air theater. The rain had just cleared up and the sun had come out just in time for a lovely evening. European summer days are long, so it wasn’t dark until 10 pm or so. The atmosphere was very chilled and people were swaying to the music with drinks in hand. The band had an assortment of instruments, everything from a guitar to a clarinet. They played the perfect soundtrack to a relaxed summer evening.
Summer in Hamburg is a cherished, but sadly a short event. The ope air stage is only open until the end of September, featuring a couple concerts a week. The next concert in the lineup is and Damien Rice on August 8th. Tickets are available online and over the phone. Don’t worry if you miss it this year, there’s always the next! They have a sampler of next year’s line up on their website as well.
Also as a tip: don’t bring dogs or umbrellas! The umbrella you can trade in for a poncho at the entrance, but I don’t think the same goes for furry friends.
